A Douglas County elected official was seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident at Airport Road and Highway 395 in Minden on Tuesday morning.

Linda L. Slater, 43, of Gardnerville, the county's recorder, was taken by CareFlight helicopter to Washoe Medical Center, where she was listed in serious condition in the intensive care unit.

Slater, traveling west on Airport Road, apparently failed to yield to a Jeep driven by 27-year-old Justin Desrochers of Gardnerville heading northbound on Highway395, according to Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Troy Lindley. The accident occurred at about 10:35 a.m.

Desrochers was treated and released from Carson-Tahoe Hospital with minor injuries.

Slater was elected Douglas County recorder in 1994 and served as deputy recorder before her election.

The Slater family declined comment.

She was cited for failure to yield at a stop sign and Desrochers was cited for no insurance.
