It could have been called Super Accident Tuesday in Carson City.
At least four injuries were recorded in four accidents between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., one of which sent a woman by CareFlight helicopter to Washoe Medical Center. She was in critical condition after surgery Tuesday night. Her name was not immediately available.
The woman was crossing Carson Street in front of the Ormsby House when a motorist in the southbound lane skidded through the crosswalk, knocking her to the ground.
Emergency personnel quickly responded, attached her to a backboard and took her by ambulance to Carson-Tahoe Hospital. The helicopter was immediately dispatched because of visible bleeding to her head.
"I was stopped in the left lane and he just came down the right and hit her on the side," said witness Jim Crawford. She rolled onto the pavement in front of the car. Crawford said the woman appeared to be carrying cash in her hand when she was hit. The driver was cited for suspicion of failure to yield to a pedestrian.
A nurse at Washoe Medical Center said the victim's condition was unstable.
Injury accidents were also recorded at 3:42 p.m. at Hickory Drive and Pioche Street, at 4:30 p.m. at Fifth Street and Edmonds Drive and 5 p.m. at Roop and Musser streets.
A woman was removed from her car with minor injuries at Hickory and Pioche. One person was transported from an accident on Fifth and Edmonds, and an elderly man was hospitalized after complaining of chest pains at Roop and Musser.
