TEMECULA, Calif. - At least one person died when a small plane crashed alongside Highway 79 east of Temecula on Wednesday morning.
Someone called authorities after seeing the plane crash and explode just before noon, said Larri Dillard, a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration in Los Angeles.
One person was confirmed dead but it was not yet known if there were passengers, Dillard said. The identity of the pilot was not known and details of the plane's route were not available.
Highway 79 between Pauba and Sage roads was closed while federal aviation officials investigate.
