An auction today of hundreds of tools donated by a local benefactor will raise money for Carson City's most under recognized law enforcement officers: The dogs.
Money raised at the Fuji Park Auditorium auction will go to the K-9 Unit, Intelligence Officer T.M. Casey said. He said eight officers from the Sheriff's Mounted Reserve will be open the items up for viewing at 8 a.m. with auction starting at 10 a.m.
"A gentleman in his 80s donated all of the tools from his garage," Casey said. The man wished to remain anonymous. "He's just a really nice guy who has donated a lot of money in the past."
Casey did not know why the man chose to put his money into the K-9 Unit.
The mounted reserve is comprised of mostly volunteer deputies who work at special events and parades.
The list of items to be auctioned includes tools, saws, drills, a welder, a lawn tractor, bits, a table saw, grinders, polishers, machinist tool kits and more.
Casey said the K-9 Unit is supported by donations from the community. Interested residents can send their donations to the Carson City Sheriff's K-9 Unit, 901 East Musser Street, 89701.
