Barrick Goldstrike Mines Inc. was recognized by the Nevada Mining Association for design and planning in the closure of its AA Heap Leach Project at the Betze-Post Mine in Eureka County.

Successful reclamation and permanent closure of the leach pad was achieved through land forms, soil cover design, drain-down systems, and storm water/erosion control systems.

The award was one of four presented last weekend at the association's convention at Harvey's Resort.

Cutthroat Mining Corp. was honored for a site restoration project at the Treasure Hawk Mine near Gold Butte in Clark County. Echo Bay Minerals Co. was recognized for its commitment to wildlife habitat enhancement at its McCoy/Cove Mine near Battle Mountain in Lander County. Placer Dome U.S. Inc. received an award for its work in White Pine County at the Alligator Ridge Mine.

The Nevada Excellence in Mine Reclamation Awards are given cooperatively by the Nevada Division of Minerals, Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, Nevada Division of Wildlife, Bureau of Land Management, and the U.S. Forest Service. Some 30 mining projects in Nevada have been recognized since the awards began in 1990.
