Ever wonder what tree would grow best in your yard or how to improve the health of a sickly tree?

The Carson City Shade Tree Council is hosting its annual tree care seminar Wednesday. Titled "Troubleshooting and Treating Troubled Trees", topics at the seminar will range from proper tree variety to pruning, said Scott Fahrenbruch, Carson City parks superintendent. They'll also include diagnosis of sick trees, insects, diseases and solving a variety of tree problems.

He said he expects between 75 and 80 people to attend the seminar, most of them government workers or landscaping contractors. However, everyone is invited to the seminar.

"The original intent of the seminar was to educate government employees on the trends in urban forestry," Fahrenbruch said. "It blossomed from there. We look for the general citizenry to come, too."

While government workers and contractors swap tips on keeping trees in the public domain, some people "just want to know about proper pruning practices or what type of trees do well in this area."

"There are very limited resources in this area aside from the Cooperative Extension, where people can learn about trees," Fahrenbruch said.

Continuing education credits will be available from the International Society of Arboriculture, Nevada Nurserymen and Nevada Pesticides. The seminar costs $45 and includes morning coffee break, snacks and lunch. Registration forms are available at the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department. The deadline for registration is Monday at 5 p.m. Call 887-2115 ext. 1003 for information. f you go:
