The 2001 Cattleman's Update Series, an annual educational program for livestock producers, will be held in Nevada communities Jan. 8-12. The theme of the series is "Putting Progress into Practice."
The one-day conferences will feature the latest information on livestock production and discussions from Cooperative Extension specialists, University of Nevada, Reno College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources experts and others in the field.
The program schedule is as follows:
-- Jan. 8 - Fallon, 6 p.m., Multipurpose Building, Churchill County Fairgrounds
-- Jan. 9 - Ely, 5 p.m., Holiday Inn
-- Jan. 10- Elko, 12:30 p.m., Stockmen's Motor Hotel
-- Jan. 11 - Winnemucca, 10:30 a.m., Humboldt County Extension Office
-- Jan. 12 - Wellington, 10 a.m., Western Nevada Smith Valley Community Hall
Topics of discussion will include using new tools in combating pinkeye, different uses of vaccines, marketing alternatives for cull cows, decision-aid software programs for ranchers, beef quality assurance tests and anthrax in Nevada. In addition, each session will include information of local concern.
"We encourage ranch managers and owners to come and bring their employees to the program," Ron Torell from the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension said. "This is the kind of information the working cowboy needs to hear."
A $10 registration fee at the door covers the cost of the program, a 2001 pocketbook calendar and a beef reference pocketbook.
