On this Veteran's Day 2000, I was pleased to see extensive local media coverage of area World War II veterans, with parades, interviews, and other significant events. For that I thank those of you in the print, radio, and TV media who caused that to happen.
As a WWII combat veteran I was also pleased to observe the WWII Memorial groundbreaking ceremonies on TV and in the print media this past weekend. Of the 16 million of us who served in this great conflict, few remain; and some say we are passing on at a rate of 1,000 per day. So, this effort, both locally and nationally, is important to preserve our history, as our voices are rapidly being stilled.
I am not a Nevada veteran, but came to Nevada some four years ago. All of us that survived that struggle automatically became citizens of the world, and there are still many of us among you who are anonymous, for the most part. We do not want individual praise or tears, but we are silently pleased that our past efforts are still recognized and appreciated.
Thank you all again for your efforts in our behalf.
