Letter: Candidate's appeal crosses party lines

Many times during the past several years as a member of the Board of Supervisors, I often wished someone would stick up for me when the going got tough or I was out there on my own over one issue or another. Fortunately for me, again and again, there were folks who did stand behind me and gave me the support I needed.

Now it's my turn to stick up for a very special lady who is running for Assembly District 40. Bonnie Parnell has been a decent, accessible, intelligent and hard-working legislator who has served Carson City and our interests extremely well since 1999. She deserves to be returned to the Legislature again in 2001.

I guess I fall into the group of Nevada folks who vote across party lines. Why? Because in typical Nevada fashion, I look to the person first, what they have accomplished and how Carson City's interests are best served. Bonnie has proven to us that she is so much more than a teacher (although she is an excellent one). She is an independent thinker. She has demonstrated her capability to absorb and understand a broad range of issues. She stands on her own two feet and really sticks up for all the people she represents. Good luck, Bonnie!
