Letter: Don't shortchange seniors on articles

Once a month I wait with anticipation for the Sierra Magazine, the senior section of the Nevada Appeal. Little by little this section has dwindled down to 12 pages.

As seniors, we have a definite interest in subjects such as financial matters and world travel. We also enjoy reading the features about seniors by Jane Lehrman. Please don't shortchange us as we also read with great interest the advertisements that appear in this section.

As a suggestion why not develop and include subjects to and about seniors such as an in-depth study concerning the huge number of seniors taking complete care of their grandchildren and the many problems they encounter?

Why not a study on the large number of retired teachers who volunteer as mentors to students who are failing in a specific subject?

Why not more articles covering the boomers and how they can best prepare for their future as seniors?

The population of seniors in Nevada has grown by leaps and bounds, and we most certainly need the Sierra Magazine.
