Some time ago the Nevada Appeal ran an article that featured Mayor Ray Masayko in a play to raise funds for a needy cause. The Mayor was lying on the floor playing the part of a drunk, with a beer bottle in his hand. I thought then that this was not a very flattering picture especially with the elections just around the corner.
I thought at the time it was very brave of the mayor to play such a part, we know how easily things can be and are taken out of context. I also thought of all the pictures to take that would not have been my choice to run in the paper.
A week later you ran an article from one of your readers. The article did exactly what I had predicted would happen, it was turned on our mayor and purposely attempted to put him in a bad light.
The person who wrote the article could not be that backwards or that illiterate to misunderstand what the article was about. They then went on to say that they would vote for the opposition based on the picture. That is really sorry.
I think we own a bit more loyalty than that to Mayor Masayko who has done a very good job for Carson City and its people. He has given much of his own time to the part time mayor position. Carson City is large enough today for it to warrant a full time mayor. Ray Masayko is that man. I think that we need to be a bit more fair and owe the mayor a bit more than that. In my book I would classify such dealings as a cheap shot.
I am the host of the TV Show Wagonmasters. I host Roy Rogers movies. In the spirit of the West I think it was wrong to run those articles and allow someone to accuse and degrade our mayor. I for one am throwing my cowboy hat in with Mayor Masayko who has been loyal to Carson City and deserves better treatment and respect. On election day I hope that others will also see things for what they are and vote their conscience and not be swayed by cheap shots that are purposely misrepresented. It's the right thing to do.
Happy trails,
