Letter: Hate breeds hate, so get government out

I've been watching the debate over the "same-sex"marriage issue with a disinterested attitude, figuring that people would eventually be smart enough to let this thing fade away.

After all, if you shed bright light on something (or bury it in bovine effuse), it'll tend to grow and gain strength, whether you like it or not. Instead, unfortunately, the fervor has obviously become a media darling, because certain newspaper editors, who should know better, are publishing letters from the public that are quoting some of the more emotional passages of the Bible.

Folks, let's take a step back, take a deep breath of sanity, and try to objectively consider what God's perspective would be, which I acknowledge is probably a tough sell. After all, He is The Supreme Being and we're quite insignificant by comparison in many, many ways.

Nevertheless, this is what God has seen in the last thousand years at the hands of Man:

- The church-sponsored Inquisitions.

- The willful subjugation and slavery of good, honest people who were not strong enough to defend themselves against the demand for cheap labor.

- The forced displacement and/or eradication of other good, honest people because they had the misfortune of inhabiting of precious, fertile land.

- And finally, the horrible destruction of millions of men, women, and children in poison gas showers because they conveniently served as propaganda tools for a dictatorship.

These events and others like them have the same sad outcome: Hate Breeds More Hate. Is that what some of you people think a loving God wants us to do, professionally hate each other?

Ladies and gentlemen, I suggest we try to forget what other people are doing in the privacy of their homes (do you really want the government and the press to monitor your bedroom activities?) and try to live the lives God truly intended for us: lives filled with love, acceptance, and empathy.

Let's mind our own business and use all the excess "buttinski" energy to take care of our family and friends. I bet that's the best way to earn our keys to Heaven.
