I have read Bob Thomas's article of Sept. 21 and found that in no way was it anti-Semitic. Because of this trash Barbara Meyers should not be elected to the State Board of Education. It would indeed be a sad day for our state if she were to be elected. Let me explain:
Obviously, if she usually ignores Mr. Thomas's articles, i.e. doesn't read them (other than this one), she must be getting her information second hand.
I would think that any intelligent individual should know what hearsay remarks are worth. Based on her own remarks it would seem that her information comes from those primarily involved with keeping their ox from being gored (pun intended). I wonder if they would be the teachers union, et. al? The very people Thomas rails about having too much say in how "our" money is spent by the Legislature.
As far as Ms. Meyers "beating a dead horse" remark is concerned, I have this observation: Since when is being glad Michelle Trusty-Murphy got beat in the primary beating a dead horse. Besides, some agree she is a loose cannon and does seem to blow a lot of smoke.
As far as the "Hitler" quote is concerned and I paraphrase it: How lucky it is for rulers that men don't think. I took that to be a self depreciating statement meaning that if people thought about their political choices before acting instead of acting out of emotion, there wouldn't be leaders like him.
I did not know that Trusty-Murphy was Jewish and would be willing to bet that Barbara Meyers didn't even take the little time it would take to find out if Mr. Thomas knew. She just wrote her "hit" piece. Talk about being mean-spirited, and this person wants to set policy for our schools statewide to follow? If Mr. Thomas did not know, then her whole letter makes no sense.
Even if he did know, his column wasn't anti-Jewish. As much as I detest what Hitler stood for he cannot be erased from history. If the statement he made above makes people think a little about what is going on around them maybe
all is not lost. I think someone once said something like if we forget (erase) the past it is bound to repeat.
Dave Cook should be reelected to the State Board of Education and Barbara Meyers (carpet bagger) should be put out to pasture to "Get a Life."
In conclusion, I would like to say that I am glad we have people like Bob Thomas who is able to put into plain words the sentiments of many if not most of the people in this community. The Nevada Appeal is lucky to have someone
like him writing for it.
