Letter: Masayko attends important events

We now have two very good people running for mayor of our great city, Ray Masayko and Tom Tatro. Following are reasons that Ray Masayko should be re-elected mayor. I can attest to these reasons, as I have been at these functions every time.

Also, while volunteering at Republican headquarters, the most popular question is: "What groups do our candidates support?"

Carson City Women's Republican Club that meets the third Tuesday each month at the Carson Nugget (I am President-elect); Diane Masayko is a member, Ray is an associate member. We put on many fund raisers throughout the year to raise money for our candidates and scholarship fund; i.e., pancake breakfast each Nevada Day and Oktoberfest.

Carson City Republican Central Committee that meets the fourth Wednesday of each month. Activities; Lincoln Day dinner each February, Fourth of July picnic, Labor Day picnic, to name a few.

Carson-Tahoe Hospital Auxiliary's big annual fund raiser, The Cowboy Poetry held every March. Our monies go toward projects and items that will benefit our patients. Our auxiliary recently purchased a home near the hospital that will be a Ronald-McDonald-type house.

I have not seen Tom Tatro at any of the above, but Ray Masayko has been there every time giving us his much needed support.

From May 24 through 27, Carson City was host to a very important affair, the State Republican Convention at the Ormsby House, the first time it has been held here in about 20 years. Not only was this a wonderful boon for our city, but also there were very important decisions to be made on platforms and bylaws. Mr. Tatro was never there, either as a delegate or a visitor.

I was hospitality chairman for this exciting event. Part of my duties were to serve box lunches for the two-day decision-making part of the convention. Ray and Diane volunteered to be on my committee. They were there every day to help, not only in serving the lunches but in any other way needed.

On Friday, May 26, Governor and Mrs. Guinn hosted a barbecue at the Mansion. When I arrived at the Mansion, there were 100 tables without tablecloths, with people arriving shortly. Ray and Diane fortunately arrived early to see if they could help. God bless them. With the assistance of a couple of other people, we had those tablecloths on in time for the arriving guests. Thanks to them, not only did my heart start pumping again, so did Dema Guinn's, as she wanted everything to be perfect. Again, I did not see Tom Tatro at this function. In fact, I don't know why he did not try to attend any or all of this very important convention.

Ray Masayko, Jon Plank, Dave Cook and Al Kramer, attend our central committee meetings all the time, not just when running for office.

If Tom Tatro wants to be the "active" mayor of Carson City, why has he not attended any of the aforementioned activities? Should his excuse be he was too busy? Then how can he expect to run a fast growing, important city like Carson part-time, while giving only part-time to his regular job with the DMV but receiving full pay. What if he is desperately needed by the people of Carson City, but at the same time is desperately needed by his employer? Which one does he choose to represent, his full-time paying job or his part-time job?

There are a lot of very important decisions to be made regarding our city in the next four years, and I don't think a part-time mayor can do the job. Ray Masayko has done a great job during his term, and he loves and believes in Carson City and its people - witness all the functions he attends and supports. He has the time and ability to give Carson City and its citizens the important attention needed in the coming years.

I hope the voters of Carson City will reelect Ray Masayko as your full-time, involved mayor in November. He is truly needed.
