Letter: Restaurant award a slap at workers

Lt. Gov. Lorraine Hunt is scheduled to receive an award as an "industry leader committed to the ongoing education of her own employees ..." from the Nevada Restaurant Association. Interesting.

Hunt and her husband are the founders of the Nevada Restaurant Association. Pretty ridiculous when you get awards from the organization you created.

I find "commitment to her employees" difficult to understand considering Blackie Hunt was chairman of the board and Lorraine Hunt was exchange director the year SB549 was introduced to the legislature by Janine Stroth,

the Nevada Restaurant Association lobbyist.

Had it passed, the bill would have benefited employers tremendously by providing credit for tips against minimum wage, which means the law would have allowed the employer to pay a tipped service provider up to one-half of the minimum wage, thus denying employees full wages and full tips, creating a situation that would push the working class into a class of working poor while putting more money in the employers pocket. To me, that spells total disregard for employees - not "commitment."
