Letter: Tatro has done plenty for cancer patients

This letter is in response to Rita Carman's letter to the editor on Oct. 31. Ms. Carman states in her letter that Tom Tatro did not participate in an event to raise money for local cancer patients because "he doesn't do that sort of thing."

The truth of the matter is that Tom does participate in many fund raising events. Here is only a small example of the fund raising events that Tom has been a part of.

In 1997 Denise Dunning was diagnosed with cancer. Tom, his family and friends spent a considerable amount of time and energy to put on the first annual Bash and Benefit at the Ormsby House on Nevada Day, raising money to help pay for the mounting medical bills.

The following year, Mariano Sanchez fell into a coma and was later diagnosed with an auto-ammune disorder that attacked his lungs and liver. Once again, Tom, his family and friends put on a second annual bash and benefit to raise money to help Cindy pay some of the medical bills. This continued for a third year raising money for a family whose two children were badly burned in a house fire and required continual surgeries.

Just recently, Tom participated in the all-night run at the Carson High School, helping to raise money for the American Cancer Society. There are many more events that Tom has participated in to help the people of Carson City and the surrounding areas. This is just a small example of how dedicated Tom is to this community and to helping families in time of crisis.

This community has witnessed Tom's leadership, compassion and ability to make things happen. He strives to help people and has frequently given his support to families in need. We believe that our community needs a man like Tom Tatro as our mayor.
