Letter: The most agressive drivers are the Nevada Highway Patrol

I have no argument with the basis for the article in Saturday's edition ("One killed, several hurt in accidents") but the comments attributed to Trooper Lindley are, to say the least, misleading. Trooper Lindley alludes that you people, the driving public, are the only bad guys on the road. I take exception to his innuendo.

I, like several thousand others, make the Carson-Reno-Carson commute at least once a day Monday through Friday. Like those several thousand others I have come to recognize the speeders, not personally but by their automobiles. I certainly have come to recognize that the most aggressive and fastest automobiles belong to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The thing that disturbs me most is the fact that when I am traveling 50 mph in a 50 mph zone the police pass me and further down the road that same officer has pulled an alleged lawbreaker over. Never have I seen a speeding policeman pulled over.

Can it be that the police are above the law? Can it be that be that the police are not required to abide by the provisions of the Nevada Revised Statutes. The law is quite specific with regards to speed and that is, under no circumstances, is it permissible to exceed the posted speed limit.

I would suggest that the police at least make a vague attempt to set an example for the motoring public by obeying at least some of the traffic laws they are hired to enforce.

If that's out of the question, maybe the state can hire more police to police the police.
