Letter: Weaver ad has opposite effect

Page A5 of the Nevada Appeal, Wednesday, Oct. 25. A half page ad paid for by Neil Weaver. Such large print and such tiny print for his name at the bottom of the page. I was under the impression that Mr. Weaver was endorsing Mayor Masayko, and to think he has so much venom. What happened?

Maybe it was the televised interview where Bob Thomas was appointed to Airport Authority, the vote 5-0. Did Weaver feel that the mayor should have promised him the job? Is he "qualified" other than in his own mind? Using the quote, "I don't think much of a man who is not wiser today than yesterday," (Abraham Lincoln). Well, when a man becomes smaller today than he was yesterday, then I have many questions.

My feeling is that Mr. Weaver does not meet the standards of Abraham Lincoln to use the quotation. Had I been inclined to vote for Tom Tatro, Weaver's "ad" would have changed my mind. You know, birds of a feather.

Mayor Masayko worked for a company that had to produce a bottom line. He was never paid by the tax dollar. It is beyond my comprehension that anyone would make such accusations. I doubt that the mayor would ever live up to Weaver's inference.

I have known Masayko from the day he moved to Carson City and have found him to be fair, honest and has much more integrity than that displayed by his accuser.

Jeff Ackerman's statement "A Pacifier," referring to the south portion of the freeway. The highway department would do nothing until Marv Teixeira presented the five-cent gas tax. Let's go back to when Richard Bryan was governor. A stretch of 395 south of Reno between Lumberjack and Mount Rose Highway was badly in need of repair. Many complaints were made and nothing happened. NDOT would do nothing, not budgeted for in the immediate plans.

Gov. Bryan, after many trips to Reno, found the road most uncomfortable and became impatient. He went to the proper source and in short order the road was repaired. Mayor Masayko went to Gov. Guinn and some action came forth. We now have an estimated completion date. Also, keep in mind that while Bob Miller was governor, he did nothing for the freeway.

In spite of the Nevada Appeal's endorsement and Weaver's venomous endorsement of Tom Tatro, Mayor Masayko has at least accomplished an estimated date for completion of the freeway and I do not believe he has compromised himself.

Mayor Masayko should be reelected, not someone who is committed to full-time state employment. He is on a tax paid payroll and must give the taxpayer full value for the dollar he is paid. I was not impressed when Tatro served as a supervisor, as the record shows, and I wonder, is he as great as he tells us?
