Twelve students in the Carson City School District are without the basic necessities, including clothes.
The children have escaped abusive homes and are living with their mothers in temporary shelters provided by Advocates to End Domestic Violence.
Kim Riggs, director of the Children in Transition program, said the children often leave home with only the clothes they are wearing.
"Sometimes their moms sneak them out in only their pajamas," she said. "Sometimes their moms act like they're just taking them to school so as not to raise any suspicion."
Riggs is asking for donations or gift certificates to purchase clothes, shoes and school supplies for these children.
