Machete man allegedly takes law into his own hands

A man with a machete allegedly wanted to take matters into his own hands regarding drug usage in a North Fall Street home, a Carson City Sheriff's Department official said.

Nathan Alan Sabin, 29, allegedly forced three people to lay down in the back yard at 1910 N. Fall St. and then kicked one in the head and hit a second victim in the neck with the machete, according to sheriff's logs.

Any injuries suffered by victims apparently were minor and did not require medical attention, Chief Deputy Scott Burau said.

"What we've been able to piece together is he was upset by the alleged drug usage by these individuals and he was taking matters into his own hands," Burau said.

Sabin left the scene but deputies linked him to the Fall Street address and tracked him down at a home at 3380 Fall St. Deputies had to convince Sabin to put down the machete before he was arrested on suspicion of battery with a deadly weapon and false imprisonment with a weapon.

Bail was set at $30,000.

A second arrest came as deputies investigated the Fall Street home where Sabin allegedly accosted the three people, whose genders were not immediately available. More arrests could follow, Burau said.

"(The victims) were reluctant witnesses, I can tell you that," Burau said.

Deputies found nobody in the house in the minutes following the machete episode. They broke into a locked bedroom after hearing a radio or television inside but got no response to knocks, the report said.

They thought an injured victim may be inside but instead allegedly found a plastic baggy filled with white powder, a small propane burner and a tall glass water pipe, the report said.

During this time, Teresa McGee, 31, the sole resident of the house, returned home and deputies questioned her. She was not one of Sabin's three victims, Burau said.

"She said someone else was using drugs in her bedroom without her permission," the report said.

Deputies arrested McGee on suspicion of felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia. Bail was set at $2,500.
