Man accused in Jiffy Lube robbery attempt pleads innocent

A Carson City transient accused in the foiled heist of a South Carson City Jiffy Lube pleaded innocent Monday in district court.

Donald D. Timberman, 19, is accused of attempted robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery and attempted burglary. He will stand trial early next year.

Timberman, an ex-employee of the oil-change shop, is suspected of promising current employee Don Wagner 25 percent of the booty in exchange for his silence, court records indicate.

Wagner, however, had different plans. He allegedly played along with Timberman, but informed the Sheriff's Department of his intentions.

On Oct. 21, the Saturday of the planned robbery, detectives had the store staked out. In preparation, they arranged for the store to be closed an hour early.

At 5:55 p.m. a small brown Toyota drove south through the Carson Car Wash and into the alley near Jiffy Lube. Timberman, Daniel W. Trusty, 24, and John H. Lund, 31, got out of the car and headed toward the shop, and they were apprehended.

A fourth man, Michael F. Reed, 28, was waiting in the car when his alleged accomplices were apprehended. He ran west and was quickly picked up by tribal officers.

Reed, an unemployed transient, was charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and attempted robbery.

Trusty, also an unemployed transient, was charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, attempted robbery, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Lund, unemployed, of Williston, N.D., was arrested for suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery, attempted robbery, carrying a concealed weapon and marijuana possession.

Timberman waived his right to a preliminary hearing. His alleged accomplices are scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 11 at 1:30 p.m.
