NEW YORK (AP) - A man died after he was punched in the head in a seemingly unprovoked assault by another man while standing on a street corner, police said.

The victim, Neil Eddelson, 39, was assaulted moments after leaving a Tribeca strip club with a friend about 9:30 Wednesday night. The friend told police that as they paused at a corner, another man came along, punched Eddelson in the back of the head - knocking him to the ground - and fled on foot.

The attacker was described only as a man aged 25 to 30.

Eddelson was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead. An autopsy found that he died from skull fractures and brain injuries caused by blows to the head.

Detectives said that there were no signs of a robbery, nor did it appear the incident stemmed from an altercation at the club, where he and his friend had been drinking.
