Kelly Sue Hein, a Carson City caretaker charged with murdering her patient and concealing the body while she stole from the estate, may face more charges related to the alleged thefts.
During a Wednesday scheduling hearing in Judge John Tatro's courtroom, Chief Deputy District Attorney Anne Langer said the investigation into Barton's finances is ongoing.
"We are still investigating the charge of exploitation of the elderly," she said. "All of the bank records have not come in yet."
Hein, 33, had been living with 79-year-old Iris Barton for nearly two years when Barton died at her home at 4722 Blackrock Court in North Carson City. Parole and probation officers discovered the body while visiting the address on an unrelated check of a probationer.
Hein reportedly told investigators that Barton had been dead three weeks when her body was discovered on a bed in an upstairs bedroom. Hein was formally charged with murder on Wednesday.
A preliminary examination of the evidence against Hein is set for Aug. 24 in Tatro's courtroom. She is being represented by attorney Ben Walker.
