Obituary: Albert DeFrank

Albert DeFrank, 86, of Carson City died July 26, 2000 at the Nevada Cares home for seniors.

He was born Feb. 25, 1914, in St. Omaro, Italy, to Pasqual and Carmella Ezzie DeFrank and came to the Untied States at age 6.

At age 16, he left his Coatesville, Pa., home and rode freight trains to Long Beach, Calif., where he found work on the boat float of the Rainbow Lagoon. He returned to school a few years later, earned a diploma from Polytechnic High School in 1935 and attended City College.

Mr. DeFrank worked on the construction of the Grand Coolee Dam and also as a Long Beach lifeguard before becoming a fireman, a career that lasted from 1942 to 1976. He moved from Long Beach to Carson City in 1989.

Survivors include wife Dorothy DeFrank and son Dan DeFrank of Carson City; daughter Dolores Collins of Alta Loma, Calif.; sister Mary White of Coatesville, Pa., and granddaughter Denise Shields of La Jolla, Calif.

No services have been scheduled at this time. Cremation will be by Walton's Sierra Crematory under the direction of Walton's Chapel of the Valley.
