Obituary: Gilbert Ward Johnston

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley for Gilbert Ward Johnston, 85, a Carson City resident for 37 years. He died Nov. 13, 2000 at Carson Health Care in Carson City.

Mr. Johnston was born Nov. 2, 1915 in Cole Camp, Mo. ,to Herbert and Lillie Breshears Johnston. He attended school in San Bernardino, Calif. He moved to Carson City in 1963 from Barstow, Calif.

He owned Johnston's Arco in Carson City until he retired in 1978.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Peggy, and three brothers.

He is survived by sons Gilbert R. of Carson City and Charlie of Imperial Beach, Calif.; stepdaughters Peggy Swift and Joan Buscher of South Lake Tahoe; Carol Minich of Cold Springs and Janet Brewster of Dayton; a sister Florence Williamson of Rialto, Calif.; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Visitation was Monday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley. Burial is at Walton's Carson Gardens. Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
