A memorial service for Marthalena Neill, 93, a Carson City resident for the past 42 years, was held Oct. 7 at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.
Mrs. Neill died Oct. 4, 2000 at Carson Healthcare. She was born Jan. 17, 1907, in Holmesville, Miss., to John B. and Mary Ellen Gent Brumfield.
She graduated from Mississippi State College for Women.
Mrs. Neill was a homemaker who loved her children, grandchildren, flowers and cooking. She was a member of the Officers Wives Club and the Democratic Women's Club. She was an Episcopalian.
She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 65 years, Samuel Neill in 1996, brother George Brumfield and sisters Olga Hughes and Myrtle Moore.
Among her survivors are her son John and daughter Bettye Ruggeri, both of Carson City; grandchildren Mike Ruggeri of California, Kirk Ruggeri of Texas and Jeff Ruggeri, Gary Neill and Laura Neill, all of Carson City and three great-grandchildren.
Cremation was at Walton's Sierra Crematory.
Inurnment was at Lone Mountain Cemetery.
Walton's Chapel of the Valley, Crematory and Cemetery is in charge of arrangements.
