A woman hit by a car in Carson City on Tuesday afternoon remained in critical condition at Washoe Medical Center on Wednesday.

Xochite Alvarez, 24, was crossing Carson Street toward the Ormsby House when she was struck by a Chevy Camaro driven by a 17-year-old boy. His identity was withheld because he is a minor.

Because she showed bleeding from the head, Alvarez was immediately taken from Carson-Tahoe Hospital to Washoe Medical Center by CareFlight helicopter. Witnesses said Alvarez was hit in the southbound slow lane.

She apparently walked past a stopped pick-up truck in the fast lane when the Camaro skidded through the crosswalk, striking her.

Within minutes emergency crews arrived at the crosswalk and Alvarez was strapped to a backboard before she was airlifted.

The driver that struck her was reportedly cited for suspicion of failing to yield.
