Prison worker charged with aiding escape

ELY - A prison guard is in custody in Ely, accused of smuggling bullets and handcuff keys to an inmate.

Officer Erik Jacobs, who worked at the prison since September 1997, will face five counts of furnishing a weapon to a prisoner and two counts of aiding an escape.

He was arrested Friday at Ely State Prison where he works. Personnel actions and criminal actions are pending, officials said.

Ely State Prison is a maximum security facility. Jacobs is accused of bringing .25-caliber bullets to the prisoner.
