Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., is sponsoring legislation to transfer ownership of the Kingston Cemetery from the U.S. Forest Service to Lander County.
"We should not ask the residents of this small, landlocked community to purchase additional land so they can protect their history or one day have a final resting spot near the place they call home," said Reid.
The forest service is already selling the cemetery site to Kingston but Reid wants to convey an additional 9 acres around the cemetery to Lander County at no cost.
Reid's bill is co-sponsored by Sen. Richard Bryan, D-Nev.
