Reno museum is the recipient of $10.5 million grant

The Nevada Museum of Art in Reno was the recipient of a $10.5 million grant from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation.

The museum received one of two awards in Nevada. The Boulder Dam Area Council, Boy Scouts of America in Las Vegas received $5.84 million to build a scouting resource center.

"During a recent board meeting our trustees heard presentations from 12 finalists in our capital grants program. These presentations were the final step in a very rigorous and competitive evaluation process that started nearly 18 months ago. Of the seven grants awarded, two excellent organizations were selected to receive major capital grants from the state of Nevada," said Fred W. Smith, chairman of the foundation.

The recipient of the largest capital grant from the Reynolds Foundation this year is the Nevada Museum of Art. This $10,497,015 grant is for the 65,000 square feet Donald Reynolds Center for the Visual Arts to be built on the museum's present site in downtown Reno. The center will be four times larger than the museum's exiting facility.

Of the foundation's current charitable giving programs, the capital grants program is the oldest and largest. Since its inception six years ago, the foundation has funded 37 capital grants projects, totaling $260.5 million. Headquartered in Las Vegas, the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation is one of the largest private foundations in the United States.
