I just finished reading the "Discover Us" that was in the Appeal this morning.
I couldn't believe the omission of the name of the man who was the pioneer instigator of the Carson City Recreation Department. Not one mention of Dennis Sullivan for the many things started in 1964.
When I went to work for the city Civil Defense and Cooperative Extension, Dennis was struggling with the beginning of the Recreation Department, and we were all housed in one room in the basement of the old Civic Auditorium. Dennis didn't have a secretary so I helped him when I could, answering his phone, etc.
The "Tiny Tots" program was started, there was basketball upstairs, dance for the youngsters, exercising for the older group, ski program and many others benefiting youth.
Did you know he was responsible for the Community Center?
Dennis was a very shy man, and it was very hard for him to voice his ideas and put across what he felt Carson City needed.
I always felt his efforts were never appreciated as they should have been. Something should have been named in his honor. He should have been given the credit he so rightly deserved. To not even mention his name in your article is unforgivable.
