A Gardnerville man discovered items missing from his garage after he reported a suspicious person in his back yard posing as a Southwest Gas employee.
The man contacted the company, and after researching the incident, it was found that no Southwest Gas employees were working in the area on the day in question, and that the description of the man did not match any of the company's employees. The case is now being investigated by the Douglas County Sheriff's Department.
Southwest Gas officials are reminding residents that all company employees carry photo identification cards when on company business and should only be allowed to enter a home at the resident's request.
Company Vice President Gary Clark reminds the public that "If residents are still in doubt about the authenticity of an individual and their photo ID, they should call their local Southwest Gas office and verify the identity of the employee.
