Another 2-4 inches of snow is predicted to hit the valley floors in the latest of a series of cold storms to hit Western Nevada.
Chain controls went into effect on Interstate 80's westbound lanes on Monday night due to an accident between Cisco Grove and the Donner Lake interchange.
According to the National Weather Service, snow was expected to be heavy at times throughout the Sierra north of Lake Tahoe.
Forecasters are warning there could be an additional 4-8 inches of snow above 7,000 feet in the Lake Tahoe area by this morning.
The storm is predicted to clear out by tonight.
Those traveling through the Sierra are warned to be prepared for severe winter conditions by filling up gas tanks and carrying chains, blankets, extra clothes and food.
This storm is predicted to be weaker than the one that hit Carson City Thursday and continued through Friday.
During that storm 1.95 inches of moisture fell in Carson in the form of nearly two feet of snow in places.
Cold temperatures kept the city white over the weekend with low temperatures dropping to 4 degrees on early Sunday morning.
Forecasters are tracking another storm which could arrive by Friday.
Kirkwood ski resort has between 1 and 2 feet of snow and plans to open Saturday.
Heavenly plans to open its season on Friday, after receiving more than a foot of snow on the upper slopes.
