Three family members found dead in home after tense police standoff

VISTA, Calif. - A man who kept a SWAT team from entering his home for nine hours was found dead along with his sister and father.

Authorities came to the home Tuesday after Andrew Greene, 29, told neighbors he killed his father and sister. After a tense standoff, sheriff's deputies found the bodies of Greene, his 74-year-old father Malbone, and his 34-year-old sister Jill inside the home.

Greene and his father each had gunshot wounds and Jill Greene had multiple stab wounds, Don Maddox, a spokesman for the San Diego Medical Examiner, said Wednesday. The cause of their deaths was not yet determined.

Greene initially spoke with deputies through a window and later spoke to law enforcement negotiators by phone. Details of those discussions were not known.

''He told authorities he killed his father and sister and they were dead inside the house,'' said sheriff's Capt. Scott McClintock.

Authorities had been called to the home in the past and deputies knew Greene had at least 50 guns, said Sheriff's Department spokesman Ron VanRaaphorst.

SWAT officers eventually shot about six rounds of tear gas and a loud, diversionary device into the home but Greene refused to surrender. About 10:30 p.m., authorities announced that the three bodies had been found.
