RENO - Washoe County is moving forward with the possibility of joining the cities of Reno and Sparks in a joint bid to buy the water division at Sierra Pacific Resources.
The county's board of commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to authorize county manager Katy Singlaub to submit a non-binding bid for the water division.
Commissioners also approved a resolution offering their support for the joint ownership of the operation by the local governments.
The commissioners say revenue bonds would be used to finance the purchase so there would be no increase in property taxes.
Sierra Pacific announced last month that it intended to sell off its water business and focus instead on its core business of electricity distribution.
