Brief: Tahoe landscaping workshops offered

A group is offering a series of workshops this spring to help educate landscape professionals and homeowners about practical landscaping methods, challenges and solutions for the Tahoe area.

The Tahoe Environmental Landscaping Series 2000 is a series of five classes being offered in a coordinated effort by Nevada Tahoe and Tahoe Resource Conservation districts, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and University of Nevada Cooperative Extension in cooperation with the Lake Tahoe Environmental Education Coalition.

The four-hour workshops willbe held from 1 to 5 p.m. at Lake Tahoe locations. Workshop topics include:

-- Turf Management, Irrigation and Fertilization, March 23 at Kahle Community Center, Stateline

-- Revegetation of Disturbed Site: What To Do and What Plants to Use, Soil Amendments, Composting, March 30, Kahle Community Center, Stateline

-- Forest Health - Fuels Management, April 5 at Round hill Fire Protection District Meeting Room and April 7 at Aspen Grove Center, Incline Village

-- Residential Best Management practices for Contractors, April 14 at North Lake Tahoe Conference Center, Kings Beach and April 21 at Zephyr Cove Library

-- Pest Management and Bark Beetles, April 27, TMCC, Room 211, Incline Village

Professionals can receive a certificate for each course completed, which may be used to show up-to-date knowledge of TRPA-approved landscape design and maintenance principles. Registration fee for professional certificate of completion is $25 per person per class. No fee is required for homeowners not seeking a certificate, but a $10 donation is appreciated to help cover cost of materials.
