WASHINGTON - Sen. Richard Bryan, D-Nev., pressed his case to provide workers compensation to former Test Site employees Monday in a letter to President Clinton.
Bryan says he supports the plan to provide compensation to workers at several sites around the nation who suffered health problems from exposure to nuclear materials. But he pointed out to Clinton that Nevada Test Site workers were left out of the compensation package.
The Department of Energy has asked for up to $17 million to compensate former workers with beryllium related diseases, those exposed in Paducah, Ky., to radioactive materials and those at Oak Ridge, Tenn., who suffered from similar exposures.
"Undoubtedly, NTS workers should be specifically named in any compensation package to receive compensation for the harmful effects that were imposed on them," said Bryan's letter.
