WASHINGTON - Sen. Richard Bryan, D-Nev., wants Nevada bankers to join New York and European banks in strengthening privacy protections for their customers.
"If banks can offer the kind of privacy protections they have been compelled to offer to their customers in New York and Europe, they should be able to provide those same kind of strong privacy protections for their customers in Nevada," said Bryan.
He said he has sent a two-page letter to all Nevada banks asking them to voluntarily adopt strong privacy policies such as those in effect at Chase Manhattan and US Bancorp rather than wait for the Congress to force them to do so.
"This concerns the undisclosed transfer of a customer's most personal financial information," said Bryan.
He said spending habits, Social Security numbers and even credit card numbers are included.
