State Sen. Mark Amodei, R-Carson City, will be the featured speaker at the Jan. 18 meeting of the Carson City Republican Women's Club.
Amodei was elected to the state Legislature in 1996 as Carson City's District 40 Assemblyman and was named the Outstanding Freshman Legislator that session.
In 1998, he was elected to the Nevada Senate in the Capital Senate District which encompasses Storey County, along with most of Carson City and Lyon County. During the 1999 legislative session, Amodei served as the assistant majority whip and vice chairman of the standing Committee on Transportation. Other committee assignments include Commerce and Labor and Human Resources and Facilities.
Amodei was born and grew up in Carson City, graduating from Carson High School in 1976 and the University of Nevada, Reno in 1980.
The Carson City Republican Women's Club meets the third Tuesday of each month at the Carson City Nugget. A social hour begins at 11 a.m., followed by a buffet lunch at 11:30. Lunch is $12 per person. The public is invited but reservations must be made prior to the meeting by calling 246-1405.
