Coccio in trouble with law again

A Carson City man, who pleaded guilty earlier this week to domestic battery, is in trouble again with the law, this time for alleged drug dealing.

Luis Coccio, 22, is serving jail time for two unrelated crimes. He was pulled from his cell where he is serving a 45-day sentence and arrested again on suspicion of drug dealing and possession of methamphetamine.

Although he is not eligible for release, Coccio's bail was set at $50,000.

Coccio's current sentence was originally suspended with the provision that he perform 80 hours of community service. When he failed to finish in the allotted time, the sentence was reinstated.

Monday's guilty plea stemmed from an incident where Coccio whipped his wife with an electrical cord and cut her arm with a knife. As a part of a plea agreement with prosecutors, a more serious deadly weapons charge was dropped. He was sentenced to two days in jail and 40 hours of community service.

Trafficking methamphetamine is a felony, punishable by up to six years in prison. A preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 12 in district court.
