Couple arrested in drug raid takes different paths

A Carson City man faces up to 25 years incarceration in connection with a Nov. 5, 1999, drug raid on his home.

Mark Neill Thomas, 35, denied charges of manufacture, sale and possession of methamphetamine Monday morning.

District Judge Michael Griffin read six charges against Thomas, including manufacture of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and two counts of child endangerment.

Griffin's tally of the charges and their sentences included a possible 23 years in prison and two years in jail.

Thomas' attorney, Allison Joffee, waived his right to a trial within 60 days. A trial date was set for Aug. 29.

Thomas' wife, Julie, appeared in court for sentencing on Monday in connection with the same raid.

She admitted to possession of a controlled substance at an earlier hearing and received a suspended sentence of 1 to 4 years in Nevada State Prison.

"I take full responsibility for my actions," she told Judge Griffin prior to her sentencing.

Griffin ordered Julie Thomas, 35, to get counseling and maintain full-time work.

"I can't order this, but I strongly suggest you get some new friends," Griffin said.
