Dry weather to continue

A fast-moving storm blew through the area Sunday night, but left behind warmer temperatures for the rest of the week.

The National Weather Service reports that the conditions for the next four days will include dry, warm days, with temperatures reaching into the mid-40s to low 50s.

The nighttime lows should dip into the teens and lower 20s.

"Residents can expect winds to be light through most of the week, nothing like what blew through the area," said Mark Deutschendorf, of the National Weather Service.

Chains or snow tires were mandatory on Interstate 80 west of Reno over Donner Summit. Travel restrictions also were placed on Mount Rose Highway southwest of Reno, Kingsbury Grade and all other roads around the Tahoe Basin.

About an inch of snow was reported at the lake itself, while the higher elevations reported 2 to 4 inches.

A high wind warning was posted for Washoe Valley, 14 miles south of Reno, where gusts in excess of 40 mph were reported.

The storm fell mainly as rain around Reno, though roads were slick and icy in some areas.

Slippery roads were blamed for a rash of fender benders on U.S. 395 north of the city near Golden Valley. No serious injuries were reported.
