Eagle scouts honored

Four young men were honored for attaining the highest rank in Boy Scouts before a crowd of 160 parents, friends and dignitaries recently at the Governor's Mansion.

Brian Anderson, Jeremy Fitzgerald, Travis Weise and Ryan Collier were each honored for completing a minimum of 21 merit badges, engaging in a broad array of skills training, demonstrating leadership before their peers and planning a community related service project.

Each of these Crew 116 members, under the leadership of crew advisor Geno Fitzgerald, performed Eagle Service Projects that impact a large number of local citizens. All the honorees are also members of Troop 16.

Brian Anderson coordinated the construction of a handball court on the campus of St. Teresa's Elementary School for the enjoyment of hundreds of students.

Jeremy Fitzgerald directed a team of volunteer scouts and Latter-day Saints youth in a project to help control erosion and thwart the negative impact of beavers on the Carson River.

Travis Weise formed a group of scuba divers to dive in the waters of Lake Tahoe near the Cave Rock area to clean up trash and harmful debris on the bottom of the lake. Ryan Collier spearheaded a group of scouts and volunteers to landscape and upgrade a children's playground at Good Shepherd Wesleyan Church.

These projects took hundreds of hours and dollars and were dedicated to improving the community.

Jeremy is the son of Geno and Linda Fitzgerald and Ryan is the son of Robert and Karen Collier. Both are seniors at Carson High. Travis, a senior at Galena High in Reno, is the son of Sandy and Olivia Weise. Brian, a freshman at the University of Nevada, Reno, is the son of Bob and Kari Anderson.
