East Lake Boulevard closed Monday for filming

The south end of East Lake Boulevard, just north of Carson City in Washoe Valley, will be closed Monday for up to 21 hours while a crew films a movie starring Patrick Swayze.

The road will be closed about 3 a.m. to permit crews to set up for the day's shooting for "Waking up in Reno," according to Washoe County Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. John Spencer.

Deputies will be in place from then until as late as midnight at the closure points at Highway 395 at Duck Hill on the south at the entrance to Washoe Lake State Park on the north. Spencer said the road may open a bit earlier, but probably not before 9 p.m.

There are no cross streets, businesses or private homes in the closed area, Spencer said.

But the road does serve as the shorter route from New Washoe City to Carson City. Residents of the area north of the closure will have to travel to Eastlake Boulevard's north intersection with Highway 395 to reach destinations to the south Monday.

Troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol will be assisting with traffic control and flow at the north intersection during morning commute hours Monday, Spencer said. And the area's fire departments and ambulance service have been warned of the road closure.

Local filming of the movie, which co-stars Billy Bob Thornton, will run from Monday through Friday.

The movie profiles two Arkansas couples who drive to Reno to see a truck-pull contest.

Robin Hollabird, Nevada Film Office deputy director, said the closure may take some motorists about 10 minutes out of their way.
