Fight leads to three arrested, one for battery with a deadly weapon

A Carson City man who was trying to leave the scene of a Friday night fight at Silver State Raceway allegedly struck two children and a pregnant woman with his vehicle, witnesses told deputies.

Charles Dean Peters, 20, was arrested for investigation of three counts of battery with a deadly weapon, one of misdemeanor driving under the influence and other misdemeanor charges. Two other Carson men were arrested on misdemeanor charges related to the incident.

According to Carson City Sheriff's deputies' reports, a large fight was reported in the race track parking lot about 10:10 p.m. Deputies were told three men had rolled a tire into a car, damaging it. When patrons leaving a monster truck show at the raceway attempted to detain Peters, he told them he had a gun, then pulled out a baseball bat and got into a van, Peters' arrest report said.

Peters then tried to drive out of the lot, driving the van through crowds of people and eventually striking a car, witnesses reported. The van struck a woman who was eight months pregnant and holding a 2-year-old boy, knocking them both to the ground, according to the report.

The father of a 7-year-old girl said he was walking with the girl and her brother when the van approached them. The man said he pushed the boy out of the way and picked up the girl, but she was struck on the side of her head by the van.

A man reported that he pulled his truck in front of the van to stop it from leaving and a fight then broke out between several witnesses and three people in the van.

Rescue workers from the Carson City Sheriff's Department evaluated all the reported victims and the three suspects. The pregnant woman was taken to the hospital with abdominal pains. Peters was taken to Carson-Tahoe Hospital for a blood drawing and then to the Carson City Jail.

He was booked for investigation of misdemeanor reckless driving and injuring a motor vehicle as well as the other charges and was held on $30,000 bail.

The other two men in the van were arrested at the raceway for investigation of disorderly conduct and injuring a motor vehicle and were held on bails of $530.
