Five Carson High students given awards

Five Carson High School students received Scholastic Arts awards in a ceremony at the Nevada Museum of Art in Reno on Saturday.

"This year's winners demonstrate the impressive talent among Nevada's youth," said Steven High, executive director of the museum. "The awards are a true indicator of the excellence we can expect to see from the visual arts in the near future."

In the printmaking category, freshman Tabitha Theiss received a Gold Key award and freshman Nick Rupert was awarded a Silver Key.

Freshman Andrew Poehlman received a Silver Key in graphic design.

Senior Heidi Casper was awarded a Gold Key and senior Andrew Nixon the Silver Key in drawing.

More than 320 students competed for placement in the Scholastic Arts Awards of 2000.

The works were judged in late December by a jury of five university-level art instructors and business people from the community.
