WASHINGTON - The House of Representatives on Friday approved legislation to compensate Department of Energy workers for health damage suffered while working on cold war weapons.

"It is critical that the federal government do what is right for the affected workers," said Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Nev., whose Congressional District encompasses the Nevada Test Site.

He said DOE owes those workers and their survivors, "a fair level of compensation to combat illnesses resulting from their service to our country."
