Glasson announces candidacy

STATELINE - Longtime Kingsbury resident Richard Glasson recently announced his candidacy for justice of the Tahoe Township Justice Court.

Glasson graduated from University of California, Davis with a degree in economics, then continued his education at the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, from which he received a Juris Doctorate degree in 1978.

Glasson has practiced law at Scarpello and Alling, Ltd. for 22 years and is currently the firm's Litigation Partner.

"I've always aspired to be a judge," Glasson said in reference to his candidacy. "That's the (peak) of a legal career."

Glasson has been a Judge pro tempore, arbitrator, mediator and Settlement Judge by appointment. He also served two terms on the Standing Committee on Ethics and Professional Practice and sat on the State Bar's Committee on Civil Practices and Procedures.

Appointed by the Douglas County Commission as Chairman of the Parks and Recreation Committee and a member of the Room Tax Advisory Committee, Glasson was also appointed by the Douglas County School Board to serve on the Lake Facilities Task Force.

With the pending early retirement of Judge Steven McMorris, Glasson hopes for the chance to serve the community through the Tahoe judgeship.

"This is an opportunity to give back to my community which has been such a wonderful place in which to live and raise a family," Glasson said. "(If elected) I would want to maintain the same high quality we've enjoyed with Judge McMorris these years."

Glasson lives in the mid-Kingsbury area with his wife Susan. His daughter Megan is a student at University of California, Berkeley and his son Max is currently in Denmark, representing the United States as the Tahoe-Douglas Rotary exchange student.
