The Carson City Republican Women's Club is offering an opportunity for residents to celebrate the traditional German Oktoberfest season.
From 2-6 p.m. on Oct. 24, the Carson City Community Center will turn into a cozy German village, with authentic German sausages, a variety of side dishes and desserts, and German beer. Wine, soft drinks and coffee will also be available.
Though native dress is not required, event chairwoman Jodi Costa called for participants to "put on your dirndls and lederhosen. Everyone should put on their dancing shoes, too. It will be an afternoon of good food, fun and entertainment."
A band, Reminisce, will play music from waltzes to polkas.
Tickets are $10 per person, allowing ticket holders to eat sausage. There is an additional charge for beer and wine.
The silent auction will include an 1860s vintage original Geological Survey map of western Nevada.
Raffle tickets for a one-night stay at Harrah's, including dinner and a show, are being sold for $1 each or six for $5. Tickets will be available at the event before the drawing takes place.
"You do not need to be present to win," said Dianne Gardner, co-organizer for the event. "Why would anyone want to miss the festivities? This will be the premier Oktoberfest celebration in the area."
