Help needed to clothe children

Clothing is needed for children who were recently removed from a mother who faces six counts of child endangerment.

Kim Riggs, who works for Carson City School District, said she is looking for boys clothing in the following sizes: 5-6, 2-3 toddler, and 18-24 months.

"I got call from (Child Protective Services) saying that they needed assistance with the younger kids, because they didn't have anywhere else to turn to," she said. "There's nothing out there to provide kids with these small sizes."

Sheila C. Eaken was arrested a week ago after welfare caseworkers entered the home and found three children under the age of 7 unattended. The children are in temporary foster care.

Eaken is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Feb. 4. If convicted, Eaken could serve as much as one year in Carson City Jail and pay up to $2,000 in fines for each count.

"We'd take anything that you will give," said Riggs. "If someone has clothing that's used and in good condition, we'll take that too."

Three other children, ages 8, 9 and 10, have been provided with clothing from the Children in Transition program operated by the Carson City School District.
